Derek recycles magazines, maps, notes and assorted found materials in  his collage portraits on canvas. Combining abstraction and figurative  expressionism, Gores considers ‘The study of Fierce’ to be his  subject. His ‘Zen Narrative’ approach has gotten national attention  from Juxtapoz, Hi-Fructose, Empty Kingdom and a good mix of galleries  coast to coast. Gores counts Madonna, Lenny Kravitz and ESPN among his  design clients, and was honored in 2009 to be one of fifteen artists  invited to exhibit at the Manifest Hope: DC show prior to President  Obama’s Inauguration in Washington. In 2010, Gores was named ‘One of  the 40 Important artists of the New Contemporary Movement’.
